In today's fast-paced industrial landscape, safeguarding our electrical wires and cables has taken on a critical role. It's not just about warding off physical harm; it's also about ensuring uninterrupted and secure flow of electricity and signals.

COT, refer as corrugated tubing, is a dynamic and efficient protector for wires and cables. This article will take you on a journey through the diverse scenarios where corrugated tubing shines and guide you through the proper techniques to harness its protective powers effectively.

1 Applications

Thanks to its unique corrugated design and material characteristics, COT serves in many fields.

In the power industry, it is often used to protect power cables, especially in high pressure, high temperature or flammable and explosive environments. It can prevent the cable from being damaged by mechanical wear, high temperature, chemical corrosion and other factors, which ensure the stability and safety of power transmission.

In the communications industry, it is mainly used to protect communication lines, especially in outdoor or complex environments. It can prevent the line from being damaged by wind, rain, sun or animal biting, etc., to ensure the stability and continuity of communication signals.

In the automotive industry, it is used to protect the wiring harness from wear and corrosion of the external environment, in addition to the effect of cushioning vibration.

Also, it also provide protection in various fields such as construction, transportation and automation control.

2 Insertion Method

Preparation

Before use, it is imperative to inspect the corrugated tube for any damage, deformation, or cracks. Ensure the integrity and performance of the tube.

Based on the diameter and length of the wire or cable, select the appropriate specification and length of the corrugated tube. Ensure that the inner diameter of the tube is slightly larger than the outer diameter of the wire or cable to facilitate insertion and fixation.

Insertion

For shorter or straighter corrugated tube, you can directly insert the wire or cable from one end of the tube until it reaches the desired position.

For longer or curved corrugated tube, two common insertion methods can be employed: the open-end insertion method and the traction insertion method.

(1) The open-end insertion method is suitable for situations where corrugated tubes need to be bent to fit complex layouts, but please note that the tube may not fully regain its original sealing performance after being slitted. For easier insertion, you could use corrugated tube auxiliary tool to help you to quickly insert COT tube onto the wire harnesses and prevent insulation damage from sharp edges of the slitted corrugated tube

       (2)
The traction insertion method is suitable for occasions where wires or cables are long and need to be threaded through longer or complex tube. During the traction, an appropriate amount of lubricant can be applied to reduce frictional resistance.

Fixation & Assembly

After the wire or cable is inserted into the tube, use specialized fixing clips, cable ties, or tape to secure the tube in the desired position. By doing so, ensure the corrugated tube does not come off or get damaged due to movement or vibration.

If you need to connect multiple corrugated tubes, use specialized connectors or couplings for the connection. Ensure that the connections are sturdy and reliable, and have good sealing performance.

Attention:

Avoid excessive bending of the tubes to avoid damaging its structure or its performance.

For situations that need to be waterproof or oil-proof, choose tubes with the corresponding performance, and ensure that the joints and openings are properly handled.

Check the condition of the tubes regularly to find and deal with any problems or hidden dangers in time.

3 Conclusion

As an efficient wire and cable protection material, corrugated tubes have a wide range of application scenarios and various methods. The correct use method can not only ensure the cable safety and stability, but also extend the service life of the tubes. Therefore, when using corrugated tubes, be sure to follow the above methods and precautions to ensure that it plays the best protection effect.
